Prepare for Winter! Service Your Vehicle Today!

It's certainly cold out, but winter technically doesn't start until tomorrow. If you still haven't gotten your vehicle ready for winter, there's no better time than now. Here are just a few things you can do to make sure your ride is properly prepared.

  • Change your oil: Cold can negatively affect your oil's performance. It won't freeze, but it will thicken and flow slower. Cold-weather oils are designed for the winter; they're more viscous, and they're just what your engine needs. You should change your oil roughly twice a year anyway, so good times are the beginning of winter and summer.
  • Change your tires: The cold affects more than your motor oil; it affects your tires too. Summer tires will become hard and brittle, and will give you worse traction. Winter tires are made from a special rubber compound. They're softer than summer tires, and the cold hardens them to the perfect level. They'll give you perfect traction in the winter, but that also means that they're a bit too soft for the warmer months.
  • Ensure proper visibility: Snow and salt can quickly cover your windshield, so you want to make sure that you're ready. Wiper blades are most effective for a year, so check yours and see if they need to be replaced. You should also make sure your wiper fluid is full.

Of course, those are just a few steps to take. Schedule an appointment with our service center, and we'll make sure that you and your ride are ready for the next few months. At Ed Koehn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we're here to help.
